Mild hypothermia reduces expression of Fas/FasL and MMP-3 after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in rats
Authors
Abstract:
Objective(s):To investigate the effects of local mild hypothermia on the expression of Fas, FasL and MMP-3 after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in rats. Materials and Methods:Male Wistar rats were divided into sham-operated group (Sham), normothermia group (NT), and hypothermia group (HT). MCAO/R model was established by Longa’s method, and reperfusion was allowed after 2 hr occlusion. Mild hypothermia (33±0.5℃) for 6 hr was initiated at the start of reperfusion. Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine expression Fas, FasL, and MMP-3. Results: Infarct volume was reduced in the hypothermia group (18.43±4.23%) compared with the normothermia group (24.76±5.76%) (P

full textEffects of mild hypothermia on expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 and heme-oxygenase-1 in cerebral cortex and hippocampus after cardiopulmonary resuscitation in rats
Objective(s): The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of mild hypothermia on expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme-oxygenase-1 (HO-1) of rat cerebral cortex and hippocampus after cardiopulmonary resuscitation and further investigate the possible mechanism of action. Material and Methods:To copy an asphyxia heart arrest model, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided...

full textCombination drug therapy and mild hypothermia after transient focal cerebral ischemia in rats.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We have recently demonstrated that pretreatment with magnesium (calcium and glutamate antagonist) and tirilazad (antioxidant) in combination with intraischemic mild hypothermia (33 degrees C) (MTH) offers superior neuroprotective efficacy in a rat model of focal transient cerebral ischemia. In the present study, we investigated the time window of this treatment strategy w...
full textCerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injuries in Vanadyl-Treated Diabetic Rats
Background: Ischemic stroke recovery is poor in diabetic mellitus (DM). Vanadium compounds (vanadium) relieve DM signs, but their influences on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (I/RI) are inconclusive. Herein, the intensity of I/RI was inspected in vanadium-treated DM rats. Methods: Rats made diabetic with a single intravenous dose of streptozocin (39 mg/kg). Normal and DM rats used water or...
